To start things off, make sure to check out, Why Godly Bible Affirmations are Important. Get a better understanding of God’s word about affirmations. You will find that it is very healthy being active in his word. Affirming his truths gives us a firm foundation to build on.
Words are powerful, and the bible tells us so over and over again. What we say does matter, and it can change the direction of our lives. The words we say to ourselves are especially important. We have the most control over them too. Amazing things happen when we speak truth into our lives. Our lives start to reflect these truths, and positive change happens.
If we start speaking truth over ourselves with positive affirmations, our lives will start to reflect these truths. His Spirit works in us, and transforms us into a degree of his glory.
There are a few different ways to approach affirmations from the bible. I’m sure there are more ways that I won't mention here. But for starters, we will start with the basics.
Start looking for areas that you need to grow in. If you can’t find one, I don’t believe you. Examine yourself honestly, and ask God for guidance. It can be humbling, but in the end, it reaps a harvest of peace. Start to get familiar with verses that directly speak to you. And remember, don’t do it without God’s help and prayer.
When making affirmations, start by using key words. Such as, “I”, “I am”, “I will”, “I have”, and “me” etc... When using these words you make it personal. It can simply be declaring something that’s true. Even an action statement to get your spirit moving will do.
We can also make affirmations to praise him and his power. And a lot of times, we can simply make affirmations that are short prayers. This can be a great spiritual practice and can act as a form of worship.
Let's do an example:
And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.
Philippians 4:8 NLT
These examples are action affirmations. They are intended to get our spirits moving in the right direction. With the help of the Spirit, it will happen. You will start to grow spiritually and our bodies will follow. Could you think of some of your own?
Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud
1 Corinthians 13:4 NLT
In the examples above, we have action and declaring. Both are great for our souls.
Before I dive into the next affirmations, I should mention something. God sent his Son to die for us on a cross to pay our price. He was the sacrifice for our sins. We didn’t do anything to deserve his kindness. It was all by his grace. And whoever believes in Christ has eternal life. Now, that I got that out of my system... I will go on to the next set of examples.
Let's take this popular verse. What kind of affirmations can we pull from it?
For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.
John 3:16 NLT
The last examples declared thanks and truth. We were receiving his mercy and grace in our hearts as well. Affirmations can be approached in many different ways. Hopefully, you have a good understanding and are able to create your own. Maybe you can create better ones than I did?
When you have created your own affirmations, try to stick with them. Be dedicated and persistent. Take some time out of your day and reflect these truths. Maybe you have a few spare minutes in between events in your day? Maybe you're in line at the store, or sitting in the car? Find a place and a time, and let your spirit be free with the Lord.
